Freestyle Follow
Freestyle is a game-changer, designed for our global network of instructors. In markets where workout planning can be challenging, or freestyling is the tradition, Freestyle allows instructors to lead seamless, effective classes with graphics support – no pre-planning required.
How Freestyle Works: Two Options, One Goal
Freestyle offers two ways to instruct on the fly:
- Data Sync: Utilizes your bike's data for real-time workout graphics. Requires consistent zone maintenance by the instructor.
- Mobile App Control: Use the Intelligent Cycling Mobile App to choose displayed colour zones. Offers more coaching flexibility.
Exclusive to Selected Regions
We want to preserve and nurture our home market's rich tradition of building your own indoor cycling workouts. For this reason, Freestyle Mode will be available exclusively in select regions. This exclusivity preserves local workout traditions while expanding global support for different teaching methods.
How to start a ride using the Freestyle players
If Intelligent Cycling® Freestyle is available to you, you will see the tab "Freestyle" in the Desktop App's top menu (on tablet, Freestyle is located in the footer menu).
Once you’ve chosen ‘Freestyle’ from the top menu, you’ll want to use the ‘Add Music’ option on the left side of the screen on the Freestyle landing page.
Please note: If you do not use the ‘Add Music’ option, playing your music from another device, the ‘Visuals’ player will not be a good option. This player requires the musical beat coming from the same device to perform. The other Freestyle options- The Player, The Sandbox and Team Player - can be used with an outside music source. All Players are most entertaining when the music is embedded into the Player, as the beat informs the pulsing of the visual. For detailed information on importing your music, follow this Link to the article.
Four players are available with Freestyle mode. They are briefly described below:
The Player
This player guides your riders through the workout details using colors, numbers and basic animated effects. It shows a large circle displaying the color and position that you’re asking your riders to maintain, and it changes as you make the change on your mobile device. In this player you have all the zone/color options, as well as position: seated/standing.
The Sandbox
This player is a road like experience that has 7 lanes, correlating with the intensity or power zone you've selected. As you choose a higher intensity color on the mobile app, the riders move from left to right, getting into the correct ‘intensity lane’. In this player, you will add in incline, decline or flat road, rather than bike position.
Team Player
This player displays the data from riders who have connected to their bike and used the ticket to ride. It’s a fun way to ride together as a team, giving real-time feedback to riders, as you guide them through your workout. In this player you have the option of intensity/zones as well as bike position.
Visuals
Hear, feel, and see the music with dynamic graphics that mimic the energy of the music. Using this player will fill the main screen with an interactive visualizer that changes as you change the color/zone. You also have the option of changing the bike position for the rider displayed at the top of the screen with the time elapsed in each intensity zone.
Starting The Ride
Before you start the ride, we display your unique "ticket to ride" so that others can join your ride. You will need this code to start and control the ride from your own mobile device.
Next, open the Intelligent Cycling App on your smartphone or tablet and enter the "ticket to ride". After you input the code, it will turn green, indicating your mobile phone/tablet is now in control of the PC. Now, you can start the ride.
As the instructor, you can leave the ride (or jump into it again if disconnected) using the "settings" icon in the top-left corner of the mobile/tablet. This opens the player controls, allowing you to "leave workout" (red button). This will NOT end the ride. To end the ride, you must do so from the primary device (desktop app/tablet) for security reasons. If you leave the ride, you can no longer access the control panel, and the ride will continue in whatever zone you picked last. Simply rejoin the ride to regain control.
As stated at the very beginning of this article, you do have the choice in Freestyle classes to use the mobile app to control what's on the screen OR connect your app to the instructor bike to utilize your bike's data for real-time workout graphics. The second option requires consistent output from you in regards to zone, RPE, and/or RPM.
